Ah Moon

One of Myanmar’s most recognized artists Ah Moon is finding new fame amongst international audience. Listed in Forbes annual ‘30 Under 30 Asia’ in 2018, the Kachin State born singer/songwriter has earned the support of the nation, whilst internationally she has been referred to as “Myanmar's Rihanna” by the Huffington Post. A former member of Me N Ma Girls, Myanmar’s first all-girl pop band, Ah Moon released her first solo album ‘Min Pay Tae A Chit’ in 2014 to critical acclaim within the country.

Away from the studio Ah Moon has also discovered a passion for the big screen having recently made her acting debut as the lead actress in the 2018 Burmese motion picture “The Mystery of Burma: Beyond The Dote-hta-wady”. With further film roles on the horizon for the Myanmar star.

Her involvement with the nationwide broadcast Canal+ ( as Music Channel Ambassador ) , alongside appearances on Myanmar’s most popular TV networks, has elevated her status to a household name within the country. Not surprising then she has amassed a strong following on social media. With over 2.7 million followers on Facebook.

Her role in the first ever international pop girl group of Myanmar, Me N Ma Girls received nationwide support and led to performances throughout South East Asia, as well as in Europe and America. Collectively the band received widespread international media coverage including CNN, BBC News, ABC News, MTV and The New York Times.

Following an invitation to the ‘Women in the world summit’ in 2013 in New York, where she shared the stage with other invitees such as Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep, Ah Moon was inspired to utilise her artist position for the greater good of those in need within her country. Today, Ah Moon acts as the ambassador for the Myanmar Kindness Foundation (Health and Education charity group) and campaigns alongside World Vision Myanmar for the ‘It Takes A World’ campaign. She has also been involved in female empowerment activities; she has performed at International Women’s Day concerts, International Youth Day concerts and fund-raising concerts for war victims in Myanmar. Together with Myanmar Kindness Foundation, Ah Moon has helped raising the fund to build  “Hemodialysis Centre for Myitkyina General Hospital” which will be opened on 3rd Nov’ 2018.

The decision to depart the girl band in 2014 and pursue a solo career saw Ah Moon’s career take a new direction. Releasing three best-selling albums - ‘Min Pay Tae A Chit’, ‘Automatic’ (produced by Grammy nominated producer/composer Luigie Gonzalez) and ‘Very Dangerous’ - in her home country over a 4 year period cemented her position as an individual artist.

Recording both in Burmese and English, her albums have both homegrown and international appeal.

Ah Moon’s inclusion in the ‘30 Under 30 Asia’ list by Forbes placed her alongside innovators and disruptors such as Rich Brian and Korean pop band BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, and further affirmed the belief that her solo career has garnered her fans both at home in Myanmar and abroad.  To date she has acted as an honouree by Forbes and been invited to events in Israel, Hong Kong and America, performing at Forbes’ Under 30 Asia Summit in Hong Kong in July 2018.

In summer 2018 Ah Moon, alongside Ar T, collaborated with US pop sensation Jason Derulo for the localised version of his track ‘Colors’– the official Coca-Cola anthem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup released through Warner Music. Looking ahead, Ah Moon is presently in the studio putting together her forth studio release (produced by acclaimed international producer/DJ, D.O.N.S) for her Myanmar fanbase, alongside working with award-winning producers on a collection of forthcoming singles.

Reflecting on her voyage over the last few years, Ah Moon says:“Over the past few years, I’ve grown up not only as an artist but also as a person. I’ve learned a lot through my journey so far and I see and feel changes in me day by day. I am very excited to share my upcoming music and activities with my fans!”
